So far, my experience on two forums, one about antique record players, the other about wood working:

The antique record player: I posted a thread about my bad sounding antique record player, only to find it it's broken.
The wood working thread: I posted a thread about refinishing a antique piece of furniture, only to have it hijacked by a guy arguing that you shouldn't use chemical strippers, but instead a power hose.
