I would rescue battery hens, but, they are filthy and can bring harmful diseases like Newcastle and ILT home. Otherwise I would rescue some.

true, I also don't know where to find em'. when I grow up and get a house of my own, I will have 8 pens for chickens, number 1. pet chicken coop (for chickens that are really nice), 2. production hen coop (for good layers), 3. bantam coop(just for bantams), 4. rooster pen (for excess roosters), 5. rescue hens (like battery hens and such), 6. broody pen (for breaking broody hens), 7. free ranging pen (for free ranging), 8. male free ranging pen (it is like it sounds).

They aren't filthy, and they typically don't bring disease home. As long as the farm didn't vaccinate for ILT, your good! Because ILT is caused by the vaccine.
