So I plan to go to the state fair soon.I would love to buy some bantams. What would the cost range be for a couple of bantam hens? Also do breeders ever take (debit) cards? If not how much cash should I bring? Is there a special section where birds that are for sale are kept? Please give me all your tips for buying at a fair. Thanks in advance!!P.S. I’m kinda on a budget so any tips for not spending a fortune are welcome too!

I am in eastern NC, and have a bantam cockerel, free to a good home.

Nothing wrong with him, just one boy too many.

Can't answer the other questions, but always bring something to take birds home in. Best case scenario, you don't need it worst, you now have to figure something out on the road

Buying hens is always going to be a tad expensive these days. Not a lot of breeders sell just hens. Especially bantams. I would budget at least $20 per hen. Bring cash, no one is going to have a card reader. If you're real lucky, someone might have Venmo or PayPal. Most of the time, it's either older folks or 4H kids selling them so they usually want cash.
Birds are either in a sale area near the poultry show, or the coop card on their cage will say "for sale" or have a phone number written on them. Always bring a box or cage when you expect to buy birds. As a seller myself, I always bring a few boxes for those who forget. But not everyone has extras to bring.
Good luck!

Well I went but the only female bantam that seemed to be for sale came with a rooster which I didn’t want. But I still got to see some very pretty birds and had a great time!
