That poor cow!

This reminds me of a story of what happened to a friend's cow last fall. She somehow put her head through a 16' metal gate, couldn't get it back out, and so ripped the gate off the hinges and galloped down the gravel road scared out of her mind with a 16' gate around her neck. The gravel road is narrow, probably only 12' wide, plus a little extra room on either side. So the poor cow would run full tilt, only to be brought to a sudden stop when the gate hooked on a tree or something. Our friends didn't know what to do. She had the 16' gate on her head, so she was much to wide to fit into the holding pen area where they could restrain her and take it off. They could easily get hurt trying to get the gate off her head if she wasn't restrained. Several hours later she finally got it off by herself. The gate was in pretty bad shape... And the cow was exhausted.

Cold = old lady pain. I have plenty as well.

Let's see, my day. A bi-polar woman who is not known for being nice came in this morning screaming and hollering a bunch of stuff no one understood and she left before the police arrived. Another nut came in, but he was clearly medicated this time. A fairly quiet morning for public transit. Then there was a shooting at Felony Flats and the entire area was closed down, and the wind blew down a light pole at Wal Mart so that was closed too. Confusion ensued, then the complaint calls came in. 4:59 pm I stopped answering the phones.

Pretty quiet day. Mine was in the office. Gritty chasing cows?? I cannot compare.

I felt so bad about bothering the neighbor when he told me he was at the hospital with his wife. He assured me that the cow would get the door off by herself. Well guess what???? When I came in the house just after dark I could still hear her clanging around in the dark. The heavy duty hinges banging against the side of the door make a distinct sound.

I feel bad for the cow, I really do. It's hot outside. It's got to be nearly impossible for her to get something to drink or even to graze with that heavy old door on her neck. Still the slogan "Beef! It's What's for Dinner!" keeps running through my head.

Last time I saw her and the door it was in shambles - she's managed to put her hooves through it in several places. We will have to make a whole new one on DH's next set of days off. When I chased her down to our south fence line earlier in the day, before I realized that wasn't the best of plans, I got her between the fence line and a row of tall trees. There was maybe, MAYBE, a foot of space between them. I could see her eyeing the space and I advised her that she'd never be able to fit between the trees and the fence. She proved me wrong.
