Steel fowlcatcher--use

I got one of those steel fowl catchers. I hope I'm not showing my ignorance, but I thought you used it to catch your chickens by the foot. Every time I do that, the chicken just flips her foot backwards & gets out. I guess I need some instructions.

Use it with a snag and snatch upwards motion. It will appear somewhat rough, but is effective if you have large numbers of birds to catch in the daytime, and does not cause major panic in the flock. Check and see if the loop has become enlarged or bent so that it is no longer functional. You just brought back memories of helping my neighbor move birds or empty out laying houses. My pay? 25 cents an hour -

plus all the eggs the family could eat. Yes, this was a couple of years ago.
