(stepped on a chicken's foot, didn't know he was behind me. He's walking around with everyone else, only favours it a little when standing still. Should I check him for breaks? Let him be and watch to see if he's still favouring it later today? they all hate being picked up, and I prefer not to kick their neurosis into high gear if I can avoid it)
Cluckingsworth headed another escape today, s/he's gotten really great at getting the flock behind her and out the door, thankfully they're all really fond of mealworms.
I'd gotten everyone back in except 4 big brown hens, and I was shaking the bag of mealworms to get their attention.
I didn't know one of my cockerels had followed me over, and was waiting patiently behind me for his treats. I stepped back to bring the girls closer to the pen without looking and stepped right on his little foot.
Needless to say he was not impressed. He ran back over to the pen and is only favouring it a little when standing still. I feel just awful about it though, I was frustrated and I'd been chasing them around for an hour and I had other things I needed to do, and he was just being a good little chicken waiting for his treats.
Sorry, I know it's probably silly to feel so worked up over a chicken.
