Our rooster (speckled sussex) was attacked by a dog about a month ago. He's been doing so much better, however he is drastically favoring his right leg. He hobbled on his left, if at all. I was wondering if anyone knows of any supplements (primarily steroids) that would help, or any other solutions to possibly help him. We brought him to the vet after the attack, and he was given morphine and antibiotics for an infected eye. They didn't say anything about his leg, I'm not sure if it's a torn/pulled tendon, or was broken.
Thanks!

I don't think there's much you can do but to just let his leg work it's self out. Please avoid steroids. NOT GOOD.

I wanted to let him work it out, however it's getting worse, not better. With our horses who had previous keg injuries we gave them Bute, which is an anti-inflammatroy non steroidal drug. I was hoping there is something like that available for chickens, though I haven't found anything.

Steroids (corticosteroids such as prednosone) really should not be used without a vet's involvement. They can have bad side effects, and make him very prone to infection. His symptoms are probably from a severe sprain, tendon damage, or a broken bone. Hips, upper or lower leg could be the location. I assume that you have looked over his feet, legs, joints for scabs on feet, swelling, bruising, or displacement. Chickens can respond to anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin 81 mg twice a day (or added to water,) or to a vet prescribed drug such as meloxicam (metacam.) Sometimes rest and limiting activity in a pen, giving some vitamin B complex (1/2 tablet crushed into some egg or food daily,) but upper leg or hip injuries can be hard to heal. I hope your rooster gets better soon.
