stickky threads?

Will someone please tell me what is a sticky thread? I have searched all over for an answer and cannot figure out what this means?

They are threads of importance that the Staff has "stickied" at the top of the relevant forum.

So for instance if it's a question that occurs often it would be "sticky". I was under the impression it was something bad and didn't want to make somepne mad by doing it...

Not necessarily an often asked question. Usually educational threads are made into stickies.
The Staff can do this but only after discussion and only after a request has been made. Members can't make a thread a sticky. Only Staff can.

Thank you that actually makes more sense...I asked one of the administrators first so as not to bug anyone, but they said i ought to post the question so more could learn the answer too. Thank you for your help.
