So sad, just helped with my friends goat birth.
She is a nubian mix, first timer.
Her water broke around 5pm today but no labor or contractions for a few hours. She was hardly dilated at all! Udder not very full, we got a squirt of the thickest weird colostrum I ever saw.
She had a few tiny contractions and we gave her raspberry leaves and a very small amount of black cohosh.
Labored for a long time without much progress, slowly stretched enough.
We could see a tail and a butt! Baby was backwards with legs tucked in so did not help her tight space at all.
Helped him the final few inches, rubbed him like crazy but he was already gone.
The umbilical cord was huge and thick, strongly attached. His teeth did not erupt at all and he seemed very small and bendy, like he was not done yet! Makes me think we was premature.
We bumped her and felt like there was another! She stopped all contractions. I left around 12:30 am.

I know there are a million things that can go wrong and it is a miracle anyone survives, but millions of us have! I still wonder what happened. Still very sad....

and what to do about a possible sister??!!!

I'm sorry to hear she aborted. Is it possible that another goat rammed into her. Possible infection? Sometimes we will never know why these things happen. Did she pass the placenta yet?

I may have read this wrong, but did you say you thought there might be another kid still in the doe?

You need to reach in there and get that kid out, NOW.

There is a good chance she was rammed in the side. Another doe is a butt-er.

I heard she has been laboring today but still has not passed placenta or anything else. On my way over now.

If there is another kid in there she is very deep and definitely not reachable by hand. They were talking of pitocin (spelling?).
The owners are young Animal Science graduates who have a lot of experience with sheep and cows but not necessarily goats.

Fingers crossed she can deliver everything!!

And it is really nice to have this forum to talk about this!! Thanks!

I would think ramming too. I had a little pony mare once that I saw get kicked in the belly by a large horse and the next morning I found her foal aborted....

Sorry for the loss of the goat...
