I laid down the foundation for my coop. 8 x 4 x 6 with a 8 x 15 run.
once I get chickens I’m leaning towards Dorkin. Thoughts!

Looking great! I don’t have any experience with dorkings, but many like them.

We’ve had Red Dorkings. The males tended to crow a fair amount (as compared to our Jersey Giants), but much less than the Marans or Leghorn males we have had.

the Dorking females are mild mannered, and did not create any drama. We had one male that ousted the ruling rooster (over a year old rooster) very quickly….not too long after hitting puberty. That Dorking male was a good flock leader, and not aggressive to us. We have had extra ones- Dorkings are also known for their meat, and tend to have a good amount of dark meat. We found this to be true - they butchered out at a good size, and made for a nice meal.

Up date. No plans. Figured it out as I went along. No help at all. Four days total so far and $700.00. Smother than I anticipated.

The biggest mistake rookies make is getting chickens, then worrying about infrastructure. It's a whole lot easier to build it right when you're not on a time crunch. Nothing wrong with taking your time.

Update: A few small details and hardware cloth and I’ll be ready for more studying deciding what chickens to put in it. Plus the run.
