Hello, all!! Newbie here and to the world of chickens! (Please bear with me and my rambling.) Like the title says, I'm still in the thinking about it stage of having chickens. I've been married for 13 years and have 2 kids ages 9 and 5. We live in Wyoming in the Big Horn Basin in between the two small towns of Shell and Greybull. We just moved last summer to a subdivision that allows chickens and 4-H projects. I've never raised chickens, but when I was younger my family raised rabbits. I've been around livestock and critters my whole life, but have never raised them myself without the help of my folks. Town kid. :) My dad is a great source of information because he grew up raising animals with his folks. Anyway, if you're still following this ramble, I'm here mostly to lurk and gather information. I have lots of ideas rolling around in my head and have been doing research like crazy about chickens. I plan to raise them for eggs, meat, fertilizer, and as a learning experience. I really have no plans to make them into "pets". Sorry if that offends anyone. :/ However, I want to do it right and do it well so that the animals have a great quality of life! I've already been lurking here for a week and gathering so much great information! Thanks for reading!!

You might start in the Learning Center. Lots of good articles on getting started with chickens, building the coop and raising them proper....https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!
