I have new chicks that are about 4 weeks old and one that is about a year. The chicks are in a closed in area with chicken wire so the older one can see them but doesn't have access to them yet. However, 2 days ago it seems she got a hold of one of the chicks by the beak through the chicken wire and ever since then the poor chick can't close her beak. I've removed her from the rest of them and brought her inside where I seemed to clean off dry blood on either side of the beak and I've been feeding her with a syringe but I'm not sure what else to do for her. I close her beak for her but the minute I let go it pops open. Any advice would be great, thanks

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! I'm sorry to hear about your chick and her injured beak. It could be possible that something has got broken or dislocated with her beak and that is why she can no longer close it. Please do pop by the emergency section that pork pie left you the link for, I'm sure members there will be able to offer you more advice.

Good luck and I hope she can make a recovery from this :fl

Hi :frow
Welcome to BYC!
We are so glad you joined our coop.
This video should help you find your way around the site.

Chicken wire doesn't protect anything - hard lesson. I hope the ER folks can suggest help for your chick - what a sad thing to have happen.
