Still no Eggs..issues.. Please read..

My pullets are a few days shy of 5 mos old. I have an Easter egger, prairie Blue Bell and starlight green. Also have a silkie and Americauna but they aren't showing signs. The others are for sure squatting for a week now. They go in and out of the nesting boxes. Their bottoms have widened and combs reddened. No eggs. Possibly factors are I just started giving them layer pellets. They are at the tail end of dry fowl pox and It is very hot here. Is there anything I can do to promote egg laying? I've added parsley to feed and put fake eggs in nesting boxes.

Just be patient. 5 months is still on the early side for chickens laying and it’s not uncommon for it to take 6-7 months. However, with the reddening and squatting you probably will have an egg or so within the next couple of weeks .

Just keep them supplied with food and water and it'll eventually happen. I've had Belefelders that didn't start laying till 26 weeks or more. The presence of a rooster tends to help speed things along but that's not always possible.

The only thing a rooster does is fertilize eggs, he can't influence ovulation.

I feel your pain - I had an araucana last year who just did not lay until she was 42 weeks old! She’s all good now though
