Still no eggs...Whats up?

Hello, all, I too am waiting with my Black Austrolorps and New Hampshire Red, all 19 weeks old or so -- however, I was over at Murdoch's and their chicken expert said larger varieties lay later, smaller varieties lay sooner. Don't know how big Golden Comets get; I have three Ameraucanas, they are small, and about 22 weeks, all are laying. If the Murdoch's guy is right, I have 4-5 weeks more to wait on the aussies and NHR. drats

And, I free range mine all day since hens lay every 26-28 hours, evening egg laying will be common - in fact, I just got an egg at 5 p.m. MDT, I had been out there a half an hour before and it wasn't there.

Similar situation here but my girls are between 21 and 23 weeks old I think. I switched them to an organic layer food abot 10 days ago, did not want to buy 50 lbs of grower for the 5 girls. Plus the SF is 2 weeks older than the others. And I have heard/read both - start layer a couple of weeks before you expect eggs (you kinda have to check the charts what average for your breed is), some say wait until they lay. So - still confused but I went with the switch. The girls are running loos in the yard most of the day and eat a lot of bugs and weeds (and the occasional plant). They also get fruit and veggie scraps and scratch as treats. I think "eating out" is what chickens did for a long time before we started feeding them chickenfeed and they did grow and lay eggs then too. My theories on this may be way of but the girls seem to like what they do.....I am SOOOOO waiting for eggs but after following some of the posts I know I just have to wait - can't start squeezing them, can't I......

be patient,my gold comets started at 20 weeks of age, they will start, and when they do you will get an egg per chicken everyday,I got mine at 17 weeks from a hatchery and at 20 weeks they were laying,I kept them on chick starter untill the first egg then gradually started them on laying pellets,I mixed half and half starter and laying pellets for about a week, then after the starter was used up it was laying pellets and treats,,
