Still sitting in nest/ Egg gathering?

About an hour ago, I witnessed the birth
of a little brown egg, about 2/3 the size of a "normal" egg.
I was so excited -- and I'd heard stories of the chickens crushing their eggs --
so I grabbed it immediately.
I just went back down to the coop and the chicken is still sitting in the nest,
as if she still has an egg under her.
Should I not have grabbed it so quickly?
Is it like a new-born baby, should I have given the mother some time with it?
What's normal procedure and protocol?
Thanks.

how old is your chicken you took it from?
i have had to do that, because a few chickens just want to sit there. even though we have enough nesting boxes if the egg stays there they don't want to move out at times. and we had a chicken snake not long ago is another reason i did it right after the snake was found. and bad weather coming, i just have several reasons why. i wouldn't worry about it it dosesn't affect my chickens.

Yep, that is pretty normal for the hen to sit for a while after laying. Some of my hens don't stay long, while others seem to rest a while....
