Wow! I can see why you asked about Dandelion. They look A LOT alike! Great photos, btw. I know you have to take about 9,000 shots to get a couple good ones.
Yeah! I didn't even know her name was Dandelion. That's funny I happened to photograph Freya with dandelions.

Thanks! Yes, you are so right - photographing animals isn't as easy as it looks!

I am noticing a huge difference in behavior between my hatchery chicks and the chicks I got from a local breeder. The hatchery chicks are scared of EVERYTHING and don't want to go near me. The chicks from the local breeder eat out of my hand, jump up on me on their own, and fall asleep in my lap. I didn't spend much time with either groups.

In other news it's been constant rain here for about a week and it's supposed to continue for another week. It's dampening my spirits and the chicks can't explore outside. SIGH

Rain here is FINALLY over. For a couple of weeks, it would rain just about every day, sometimes just enough to make muddy runs but not enough to do any real good.

Interesting about the chicks. My most skittish chicks were the only ones that hatched here. Their mom did her best to keep them safe -- which apparently meant as far from me as possible. To this day, as adults, Pip and Squeak are the only birds not allowed to free range because they have No Intention of returning to me and their home once they're free.

We must be getting your rain! It is definitely muddy here. And the lawn is overgrown and I can't mow it without clogging the mower or getting stuck in the mud...

I'm sure some of it has to do with breed. My older chicks are Swedish Flowers which are known for being very docile. They are THE most friendly chicks I've ever had, much more friendly than even my Brahmas (from another local breeder).

Well, this disrupts my plans...Apparently there was a mix-up with my chicks. My so-called Olive Eggers are actually Speckled Sussex. I was aiming for a rainbow egg basket, but it will have to wait. I'm not terribly sad about having Speckled Sussex though. And my mom has always wanted them and I've always told her no, so she is happy. :D

I also have had some disappointments when it comes to colorful egg baskets. My Olive Egger is one of the rare ones who doesn't lay olive-colored eggs; only one of my two Easter Eggers lays an other-than-cream-colored egg. But I do get blue, green and deep brown eggs from others in the flocks.

On the other hand, my Speckled Sussex, Bronwyn, is Miss Personality Plus. Friendly, almost to a fault, she is constantly trying to "help" me with tasks and has successfully trained me to lift up stepping stones so she can remove any and all wriggling nightcrawlers.

And, congrats to your happy mom!
