Stinky Brooder

I have 15 one week old chicks and my brooder is 5 foot by 4 foot and i use only paper towels. I just lay them down in a row and then in a couple of hours i go back down and relay a second row of paper towels. Then later in the day i take all of the paper towels out and put down a new set of paper towels. I have no odors at all. I noticed with wood chips that it was a bigger job for me to clean up.

I tried a rubber maid container and it was good for the first 4 days only. They out grew it very quickly. They need alot more room to get away from the heat lamp also.

the rubbermaid I used is one of the gigantic ones that you can only get 3 in the back of your pickup, and 6 birds out-grew it in just a few weeks. I love the idea of the kiddie pool! cheap too! You can just hang the heat lamp from an O ring in the ceiling.

I put my feeders and waterers up on brinks. That helps a lot! plus I made the bedding thinner at that end of the brooder so there wasn't as much to scratch.
