It could very well be just me, we have a variety of chickens that lay, but we also have 1 peking, and 1 rowan duck that lay us eggs also. We do have a male duck too... We(my husband and I) CANNOT eat the duck eggs unless they are used for cooking in something like pancakes, cakes, etc....they STINK...all we can smell is Chicken poop...is this just a "us" problem or do other peoples eggs stink too? I know dumb question... :)

Our sense of smell is fascinating. I have a friend who lost most of his due to a virus. At first, everything smelled nasty. Now, it's just that things don't smell much at all.

One person told me that the boiled duck egg I gave her tasted smoky. Her husband, who ate the other half of the same egg, said it was fine, not smoky.

Some ideas - do your ducks have an infection of the oviduct? Perhaps their feed disagrees with them. Perhaps they have a digestive tract infection that taints the eggs when they come out the cloaca.

I love love love our ducks' eggs. Runners and Buffs.

WOW so many possibilities...they have been getting the same feed as their chicken "siblings" their whole lives...not sure how you would know if they have a oviduct infection...It's strange though...they taste fine but the smell before and after cooking is what has me and the hubs wrinkling our noses...we don't know much about our ducks or chickens we just enjoy fresh eggs
