Stitching your animals

I recently viewed another thread where someone's animal suffered an injuring where stitches would have been the treatment of choice.

Currently i have no use for this knowledge but i consider myself a control freak. I LOVE knowing how to do everything myself. How can i learn how to stitch a wound myself? Are there books, videos, etc that I can peruse on this topic or websites perhaps. I am very intelligent so I am certain this is not something that is above my IQ in case you are wondering.

Even though I would not try it unless I had too, they do make practice skins that come with needle and suture string and directions. I think ebay had them. I would also try looking at Borders for nursing books.

Farm supply stores carry the sutures but, if all else fails you can use fishing line or sewing thread. I thing the clear kind would be better as I don't think the tissue would adhere to it so easily.

There are special ways to sew but if you can't find some sort of media to show you, regular sewing stitches will work. You may not get as smooth a scar though as some wounds maybe hard to pull together with them. I'm sorry I can't describe the stitching to you-I'm not good at that.

There's a teaching hospital here where they have children who are interested in medicine practice on cucumbers. On Grey's Anatomy, they practised on a banana. You would still need to get a book for info- Maybe you could even get a video. You probably should even practice on chicken from the supermarket.

Thanks so much. I see a whole assortment of suture thread and needles on ebay! I must keep some on hand for emergencies.
