stolen hay

Did the surrounding fields produce way less this year too? That might shed light on what your should have produced, unless yours got less rain and had poorer quiality soil this year, which I doubt. Or someone snuck grazed your field at night over the season, again, not likely. Hang on, are there wild pigs by you?

The field across the road and the adjoining fields all had bumper crops.

After it was cut and laying in wind rows, I saw it. It was thick. It should have been a great year. I asked him flat out where the other half of the hay was. He said that was all there was. Well, I know that's not true. The missing bales were all of the ones in the front near the gates. I doubt that there was no hay to harvest in the front half the field. He also bales and is allowed to keep the hay from the field next to this one, so nobody would think anything of him driving down the road with bales. His tractor carries two large round bales at a time. I can't prove it, but I believe he stole them. I won't hire him again. Before the hay was cut, he asked the land owner if he could have them because he had already sold them. She told him no. I guess he decided that he didn't want to do a refund.

Be sure to preface your comments with "In my opinion". Anyone is entitled to their opinion and it will stop any Slander suits. I've seen this type of behavior before, when you spread the news others will think twice about hiring him. Word of mouth goes a long way in the farm world.

Sheesh, how dumb can you get?

You said 14-18... he could easily have rolled 18, kept 4, and you'd have been happy with 14.

Do the same for a couple other customers and you get your cash and no one's the wiser.

Why in the sam hill was he dumb enough to take half a field from one person.

OY, and to think moronic thieves like this are breeding.

Just because a field produced an amount in the past is no guarentee that it will every year.

Regardless that is the op opinion and what his wife makes he benefits off so to bad for her. The wife picked him for her husband unfortunately for her thats the way the cookie crumbles.
