stolen hay

Kind of a hard call.

Unless you, (or a trusted second party), actually saw and counted the bales
from the field, I would think it very hard to prove the count. Suspecting the
man took your hay and proving it are two diffferent things.

A know fact that the yield will vary year to year.

Being fair....If I had reason to suspect the man of stealing my hay it would be
a forgone conclusion that I would not hire him again.

That is your right.

But it is his right that you not go around saying he's a thief. Something about
slander...

But you still don't have to hire him again...

Many many variables here. It is not a quick easy thing to load six big bales, it would require a loader of some kind. It seems to me a neighbor would see him haul it off.

Not sure I would be 100% sure if no one saw it leave.

Flat out ask him how many bales he baled in that field. To his face. In front of people. Don't accuse, just ask him how many he baled. Blind side him with it.

I'd go over and tell him "I need the rest of the hay from that lot. I don't want to have to come back over here with the police." Think somebody like him doesn't have a record? He'd rather make this right than have the cops in his butt again.

did you walk the field? There should be "spots" where bales sat, even if just for a few min... plus there should be tracks where they were picked up and moved....there should be a pattern to where the bales fall. Are they square or round bales?

I don't how other parts of the US are doing, but here in CT my hay guy said it has been one of the best years for hay and the field are fuller. He got an extra 120 bales off of the field I buy out of.

Do you have a count as to what you got last year off that field?

There's not even any proof that he did anything wrong.

Just because a field produced an amount in the past is no guarentee that it will every year.
