Stop the layer feed during molting?

I've read how it's not good to start layer feed when chickens are too young to lay. I've got two girls who haven't laid an egg in weeks--since the first feather floated softly to the ground. Only one is laying and there is oyster shell available. Should I get a small bag of grower till they start laying again?

You can go either way. I personally would feed a slightly higher protein feed, somewhere around 20% to assist in re-growing feathers, which a mainly protein themselves.
If the grower is 20%? Great. Usually a Flock Raiser type product is 20%. By offering shells on the side, you could essentially feed them any chicken feed product.

they would be fine on the layer. that way you don't need to change up thier feed to much which is easier on them AND you. higher protien snacks might do them good, however, but they aren't necessary.
