I have a Black Australorp that had starting laying eggs when she was old enough. She was a great producer for a few months - then my dog (or a neighbors dog) terrorized her and she ended up with a bunch of feathers missing, a big bare spot, and a wound. It all healed just fine - several months ago. She hasn't layed an egg since the incident. I kind of figured she might stop while she was busy healing, but she's been better for a long time.
I also have a similar situation with my rooster. He stopped crowing after he lost his tail in a dog incident. I figured he didn't have anything to crow about when he wasn't looking so good. But, his tail has grown back completely and he still hasn't crowed since.
Is this normal? Will then hen ever lay eggs again? I've got some new ones that should be laying any day now, so, hopefully they will remind her what to do.
