Hi there,
I have a 9 month old isa brown hen who has stopped laying. She has bumblefoot and I treat her for that (described in my other posts) so she currently lives in a big dog crate in the garage. She gets table scraps every day and I change her straw once a week and clean up any droppings I can during the day. She has constant access to scratch, water and oyster she'll along with a perch. I try to let her outside to get sunlight and run around but I'm in school during the day. She is in front of a window in the garage and she sees the other 2 hens on the weekend while free ranging. Her brother had to go because I live in a association but he went to a great home and is spoiled. Ever sense then she has stopped laying. She also isn't as talkative as she used to be. Is she sad about her brother being gone? What can I do to get her to lay again? Is she molting and how long can she go without laying an egg? Thx,

She has lost a few but a normal amount from flapping around I think and she's been in the garage for a little while and was laying until her brother left.

It may well just be the change in routine. Once she gets used to her new living arrangements she will likely start laying again. One more thing, you say about access to table scraps, scratch and oyster shell, but is she getting enough protein? Are you also feeding a complete layer feed?

Good news she has started laying again an egg every day bright and early! My hens do get layer feed that is soy free.
