Stopped the turner

Lower your humidiyt, 88% is pretty high. Once they start hatching the humidity will rise on it's own, you want about 65% from your doing. Other than that, make sure you put them in a brooder lined with paper towels, with feed sprinkled on the floor, and a water bottle by 24 hours of age, they have to eat a lot sooner than chicken chicks. They need about 98* in their brooder the first week to keep them from piling. Piling, next to drowning, is one of the main causes of death in the little stinkers

Ok. So my first one hatched about an hour ago. Man is it tiny. My question is this:

As soon as this one came out the humidity dropped to 76% and the temp has dropped to 97.3 Is this normal?
Note: I put a towel over the top about 20 minutes ago and the humidity has climbed to 80% now.

Also, how long do I leave them in the bator before removing them?

I'm not sure if you are reading responses like the the one above but your humidity is high. Those chicks will take forever to dry in a sauna. 65 to 70 is good. Chicks can come out when they are dry.

I've hatched coturnix many times with the humidity around 30% (ones I forgot about), so don't worry too much about the humidity.

I do read the posts. My humidity was high when I first stopped the turner and removed all of the aluminum foil 3 days ago when I first posted this. And today when the first bird popped out I looked and the humidit was up in the 70's since. And I heard that once you stop the turners you don't open until it is done or chicks are to be removed. This is my first hatch so it is all new.

Friend2foul,

I also popped the red plug on to top of my bator and sucked some of the humidity out and it has dropped to 60% now. Hopefully more will pop out tonight. How long after the first chick do you wait for the others? I set 30 and I am hoping for 10 - 15. Heard 50% is the rule more or less.

Brooder is already set as I just happend to put my 125 naked necks out in their tractors yesterday. Good timing I guess.

You don't have the plug in now do you? You need to have all plugs out so you can get as much fresh air as possible. For coturnix, I usually wait till there is a 'lull' in the hatching and remove any hatched chicks. Yes, this can mean that there are some pipped eggs, I just make sure to have a cup of hot water handy to add to the bator. They need to eat by about 24 hours old, but 12 is better. If you want to wait 24 hours before taking any out you can, but be sure that they eat when you put them in the brooder.

I break every rule. As soon as they dry I start pulling them out. I try to get a few at a time & keep humitity 60 to 70. Keep the temp up as much as possable also.

Sorry, when I saw that you put a towel over it I thought you were trying to raise the humidity. I guess u have it covered then. No Pun. LOL

Ok.. So I was awakened at 3am this morning by quail peeping. Notice 4 more additions. When back to bed and when I got up 3 more additions. And while making coffee I could see a hatch fest going on. We are up to 11 now.

Come on little ones.
