Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

Thanks so much for the link cmom! I got the little chick fixed up and I think it will be fine.
Unfortunately one of my store bought chicks died for reasons unknown. :(
This hatching thing is hard. Nothing like getting healthy 3 day old chicks from the feed store.

I have hatched thousands of chicks. When I am getting ready to hatch I give my breeding stock a higher protein poultry feed. I think it helps in the development of the eggs and the chicks that hatch from the eggs. During the summer months when it's hot I feed them regular layer feed. Also I try to make sure my males are a different bloodline than my females. I never breed sisters to brother. I have done fathers to daughters and granddaughters but rarely. I have had different types of leg issues and a couple of chicks with no eyes on one side of their heads and crossed beaks. Some that show no or little development or are slow to develop. Most of the time my runts have eventually died but have had some survivors. I have a RIR cockerel that is about half the size he should be. Point being that when you do hatch there is always a chance of a chick hatching with some type of issue. For the most part I have have very successful hatches.

Sorry no pics yet but 65 of the 72 that made it to lockdown hatched. Very happy with it because I got some more blacks and another oddball brown. Those I will be keeping for my free range eating egg flock. It will also add in some interesting genes into them. If this batch sells quickly I will be setting another 96 in the next week or so.

I have been wanting to try this since I first read this thread. I don't have a whole foods near me, but I finally got to go to one yesterday. I bought a doz, vital farms brand organic eggs. Going to set them tonight or tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed! :)

I hope the carton said fertilized eggs. I tried some that were marked organic and none hatched.

It didn't say fertilized, but they are pasture raised. I broke one open and it appeared fertile to me. I set 10 eggs. My toddler squashed one trying to get a look at the incubator. =P
