Store Bought or Farm Fresh?

I was wondering just out of curiousity who prefers which eggs: store bought or farm fresh? You do have to do a lot of work to get your chickens to lay, and sometimes it can get pricey. At the store, all you have to do is pick the carton of eggs and pay for them. I, myself believe that the pros outweigh the cons and prefer farm fresh eggs, but what do you think?

Definately farm fresh! The only time I have the other sort anymore is when I have breakfast out and they don't taste as good. The chickens are my hobby and I don't think I realized how important the fresh eggs were to my husband until he had to go to NYC to work for a few months. He called to tell me that he had just bought regular eggs from the store and they were so awful he couldn't eat them. He was able to find a place that sells organic, free range eggs but he is looking forward to getting back home where they are always fresh.

I don't eat eggs but I do know many people prefer Farm Fresh down here. They're a tad bit more expensive but most people believe that Backyard Chicken Eggs are more nutritious than there store counter part. Plus a lot of people get a kick out of seeing who they're eggs came from.

Since I’m going through all the trouble and expense of raising 7 laying hens for the purpose of getting the best quality eggs available, you *know* how I’m going to vote! But, it’s really not a bother for me (an expense, yes); I enjoy my girls. I also enjoy growing fruits, berries, and some of my veggies. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction out of it. But, I’ve always preferred quality over “convenience”. Many, however, don’t notice a difference in taste or feel it's not worth the effort whatever the difference, so think I’m nuts for going through all this … that is, of course, until they’re offered “free” fresh eggs. But, that’s “casting pearls before swine”, so I don’t offer eggs to them. They are reserved for those who appreciate them, ONLY!

In order to get a more realistic answer to your question, you’d have to ask a random group of people, not one that obviously feels as I do about raising chickens. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I have only one hen laying and have a list of names of people wanting my eggs. I honestly think people are wanting farm fresh to get away from the over medicated food or gmo foods.

FARM FRESH!!!! Store bought is so.. bland..

On a backyard poultry board I do not think one is going to find many folks who prefer "store bought" to "farm fresh." I haven't bought eggs from the supermarket in years.

But backyard poultry keepers are just as susceptible to incorrect folklore about eggs and poultry as anyone else is. "Store bought" are not necessarily old eggs. The law says they have thirty days to be sold then afterwards they are out of date. It is entirely possible in some cases for the eggs from the store to have been laid literally yesterday. The whole mechanized, industrial egg production system is built around getting those hen fruit from the egg factory to the store as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I keep hens and sell eggs. I don't care for the way our modern egg and poultry farming systems have evolved. But this isn't to say they aren't efficient. In that area they mostly beat the pants off us "backyard poultry" folks.
