I have a hen who started limping on one leg and it has progressively gotten worse. It seems almost neurological but shes still hanging on. From researching, I suspect vitamin deficiency but how do I treat that? Im seeing lots of people suggest selenium goat paste, vitamin b12, poultry cell, etc. How do I know which one to choose?
Please explain it like I'm 5, this is our first year with chickens. No prior animal/farm experience 😅 Which vitamin? Where to get it, local feed store, Walmart, amazon? How do I give it to her and how much?
Thank you!!

Hi,

What we use for our silkies, who on a rare occasion may come up with a neurological issue , is Vitamin E, and scrambled eggs for the selenium. I wouldn't use the goat paste as that's got high levels of selenium in it, more than a chicken needs.

For a leg issue though, we'd use B-Complex. If she's large, she could have the whole thing, otherwise, give her 3/4 of a pill once a day.

Have you tried soaking her leg in warm Epsom salt water for a few minutes? Then you could look her over well and see if you can see anything wrong with her foot or leg.

I would also get some Poultry Cell vitamins for their water.

Vitamins I just get at Walgreens Drug Store or Walmart. Poultry Cell I think I got from Chewy, but Amazon's got it, as does TSC and other farm stores.
