Stories and pictures of your show birds! (Cage showing, FFA and Showmanship)

Question… I have shown dogs and you must have their pedigree with you. Do show birds have papers? Or do they just go off what you say the bird is?
They don’t have papers. The only thing that makes in a breed is meeting a Standard. If you call it a Rhode Island Red and it’s a quarter Buckeye and a quarter Orpington or whatever or it could just be some mixed breed you found but if meets the Standard, it doesn’t matter. That said, it probably wouldn’t meet the Standard but you could still show it if you want. It just might get disqualified, so it would be a waste of your time and money.
Poultry people just understand that in the end, all breeds emerged from crossbreeds. They should just breed true and meet the Standard.
The papers you do need is your State Tested Flock sheet for Pullorum testing.

Thank you… not sure this is something I would ever do not even sure they have shows around me but good to know and I love to learn

I attended the Florida Sunshine classic today to peer at the birds. It was wonderful. I took like 217 in total, but didn’t capture all the birds, so here’s just a few I really liked.

Lots of turkeys there, here’s champion turkey. I feel like the royal palm tom was more stunning.. the other males there looked very un-mature though.

I also got to witness a turkey girl fight, and I think one was also trying to sass me.

Turkey girls! Much love! 😍

Oh, I went to the Bluebonnet Classic here in Texas. Didn't take tons of pictures because I was introducing a friends daughter to chicken showing. 😊

The breed my friends daughter likes and wants to show. Moderns are kinda silly looking. She also wants silkies.
