Storing eggs in auto turner while collecting ~updated with new ?

I'm still not sure what you're wanting to do. Do you want her to set? It sounds like you don't, because you're planning on incubating eggs yourself, and seeing if the teacher wants some.

Or are you thinking that when you have several eggs saved, after you and the teacher have some to hatch, you can put golf balls in the nest and see if she goes broody again, and if she does, give her the real eggs? That might work, but this time of year, it's a long shot. But some hens will still brood this late, a few will brood in the winter.

If she doesn't, at least you have a steady source of fresh eggs. Are the other hens laying too? Is there some reason you just want to hatch her eggs, not the others?

Since she has the habit of laying in that spot, she'll probably lay there whether you leave eggs or not. If you have some golf balls, why don't you leave one of those there, instead of an egg?

I will continue to let her lay and keep some for the teacher, some to hatch, and then fresh eggs daily. I'm not sure where the others lay...somewhere between my yard and the neighbor's which consists of 3 acres.

Your questions answered my questions. Sorry I made it sound so confusing.

Thanks!

Although I really couldn't tell from the postings, for sure, it SEEMS that you do not have a "chicken pen" OR a chicken coop.

IF this is the case, this should be your first priority. Then the chickens would get an idea of WHERE they should lay eggs.

PERHAPS I misread the situation. If so, please ignore my suggestion.

GOOD LUCK!
