Do fresh eggs need to be kept cool or can they be at room temperature?

stay better longer in a fridge...heard a day out is like a week in the fridge

I learned this here:
Fresh eggs can be stored at room temperature.

I've had mine out as long as 2 weeks and they were fine when I used them.

Also:
when I gather eggs that have frozen in the coop, as long as the shells have no cracks I just let them thaw at room temperature and store them the same way.

I'm interested to know as well, because I talked to some hippies awhile ago and they said they would keep their eggs out for weeks and weeks and eat them. *shrug*

How long are you talking about? A clean and healthy egg is stable at room temperature for weeks, but it will get 'stale' meaning dehydrated. This happens in the fridge too, but not as fast (kind of like with fresh veggies & fruit too). So if you are talking about a couple of days or even 2 weeks or so- they are probably fine. Longer than that, I would worry a bit.
