This is a special horse I've known about for some time, but now thought I should share!
Hundreds of years ago, Columbus brought horses to the Americas. Some of these horses became wild and lived on the islands. The Abaco Spanish Colonial is a type of horse, very pure with valuable genes not found anywhere else. There were hundreds of them on these islands not too long ago. But due to pesticides/herbicides and other reasons, there is now just one Abaco horse left in the entire world. Her name is Nunki.

Because she is the last of her kind, there is no other stallion to mate with that would produce 100% pure offspring, but they have a close match. The foals will not be 100% Abaco, but they will carry the valuable genes. Eventually it is possible to bring back the breed, albeit with some new blood. The plan is to remove Nunki's eggs and let other mares carry them, that way many foals can be born at once and not just one. This has been done with horses successfully before countless times.
If you vote here every day, the Wild Horses of Abaco non-profit will win $50,000! I voted, will you? You don't need an email or sign-in or anything, just click! Do it every day and tell everyone! That's all it takes to make a difference! Vote here:

Hope you liked this story I shared.
Has anyone else heard of Nunki before? What are some other rare horse breeds you like? I like Ahkal-Teke, American Cream, Caspian and others.
