Should i start a "go fund me" or apply for a federal grant?
"The study of toxic masculinity in chicks" ?
Like in baseball, the numbers, stats, day time/night time/ splits /home/away... vs. superstitions /streaks/curses...
It doesn't matter , none of it. as long as the outcome is favorable so respect the results.
One out of six is a cockerel, I'll be doing this again.

once in a while when we've gotten chicks from TSC a nice employee has helped us try to pick out the females which they're not supposed to do but it was much appreciated and even when that hasnt happed its been 5 females to one male

Are you saying you think there might be something to what I wrote on how to do this? I know this is only one data point and you'd need a lot more experiments to get a scientifically relevant number according to the scientific method, but maybe you'd be willing to try this again.
I think it makes sense that the pullet chicks would be more shy, and that @David61 ’s experience reinforces your theory. I know that in my most recent hatch, the very outgoing chicks did turn out to be males.
I wish there was a way to increase the odds of knowing which eggs will hatch out females…

I know this is a little bit older of a post-

But I only get straight run TSC chicks if I feel confident in my own sexing ability of the breed. Like cream legbars or barred rocks- I can tell by looking mostly.

So I was at tractor supply one morning and they had some black sex link straight runs. 5 out of the 6 were cockerels.....
