Straining to poo, help please

Oo ok what is a good vitamin/electrolyte for chickens? And what did you think of the pictures I posted??

I use Avian Super Pack. Most places seem to carry Sav-A-Chick which seems like a good vitamin/electrolyte. I don't like the Durvet brand because it is too salty. The vent looks better in the last pic than the first one. The cloaca is fully extended in one of the last pics. Not abnormal to extend that way, but it doesn't quickly return to its relaxed state. So there may be irritation inside, or muscles that have been strained from the bout with constipation. So long as stools are soft, there's a better chance for intestinal/cloaca function to get back on track. I'd like to see hydration remedy the problem.

You'll help hydrate the bird with vitamin-electrolytes like I mentioned earlier. You can use the Probios at the same time. Canned pumpkin is a good supplement for digestive problems in dogs or cats. It works both ways for diarrhea and constipation since it absorbs and is easy to pass. They also make a pumpkin powder additive for mixing in foods now. I can't remember the name of it.
The pumpkin powder sound interesting. Do you know where to get it? That would be a good thing to add to the medical kit.

I'm sure canned pumpkin would work the same. The powder does keep longer though. I saw the powder at this exclusive Dog and Cat store where I buy my dogs and cats' food. The next time I go, I'll see what the brand name is.

Thanks! Could probably make it with a dehydrator, but I'm a little busy, lol.

I know some people put all types of stuff in water for their animals and don't have any problems, but I have found that my animals tend not to drink as much, so I don't do it.

How is your chick doing?

I haven't been able to watch her for as long as I should lately but yesterday I saw her pass a normal poop with ease :) it normally does go back and forth though so idk if I caught her on a good day or if she's actually fully better. I will watch her more tonight. She seems really playful though, so cute! You know the thing dogs do when they want to play, go down on front paws, stick tail in the air, like wanting to play, she does that!! It's so cute, she'll do that and them jump towards one of the other chicks or onto my legs. I didn't know chickens did that, is that normal?? Her feathers are growing in slower than the others though and she seems smaller

I've found that chickens actually drink more with probiotic dispersible powder in the water since it adds a sweetness to it. It offsets the subtle bitterness of some vitamins-electrolytes.

Chicks have lots of energy and character. I have some chicks now that seem to think they're parrots. They like hopping up on my arms.
