Strange behavior in hen????

I have a RIR that will sit in a nest in the hen house and act as if she is laying an egg. When she is done, she gets up and cackles like she's laid an egg but when you check, there is no egg. She does this all the time. If you go in the hen house when she is sitting she will hiss at you......but still......no egg. To my knowledge, she hasn't laid an egg in a year and she is only 2yrs old now. Any ideas why she does this?????

That may be the truth of it. She's been a problem hen from the beginning!
