strange behavior prior to first egg

she basically stopped eating and drinking and we put her down.
it was a lot more traumatic than i thought it would be.

When she walks, does she walk like a penguin? Tail down? She may have a egg lodged that is pressing on the nerves in her legs that could be causing her to loose her balance. I would watch her very closely and see what other symptoms see is exhibiting. I will send a link for egg-bound shortly - I just need to find it.

I have a young jersey giant hen 4 1/2 months that is walking like a penguin, as you put it, tail down. Is this normal before a first egg or is she egg bound? I couldn't feel any egg when I palpated around her vent. She is mostly sitting.
