One of my ducks, the pekin, has been squating down next to me and/or my wife and letting us pet her. Up to a few days ago none of our ducks have liked being touched or held by us. Once we start peting her she will lift her tail in the air and today there was a little discharge when she did this. I read somewhere that this could mean she is about to start laying but she is only 2 months old, which seems a little young.
Is this normal?

Thanks,
Will

She is flirting with you 2, most likely she won't lay for another 2-3 months though.

I guess my little girl is growing up. Should I expect similar behavior from my khakis and Indian runner as well?

Are you pressing down on her back when this happens? When males get on top the they will press down and it automatically makes them lift their back end up.

I have a strange behavior question also...my ducks, when i give them treats...their heads and necks quiver and they try to like climb up my arm or sit on mh lap...they also do it to each other, they will quiver and try to jump over each other! Anyone know what this means or why they do it

I can't speak for my wife but I was just gentley petting when she would squat.

Chickens will do it too, I have several Easter Eggers that will squat when I walk up to them just like they do for the rooster. Silly girls.

Alot of it is mating behavior it just means they consider you part of their flock. Just don't let the drake get to familar if you have one, they can get out of hand once testosterone starts to flow.
