One of my Barred Rocks, 6mo old now, has been laying around all day. She is kind of puffing out her feathers and keeping one of her wings out a little. When she does walk she takes very short step and keeps stepping on her own feet as she walks. When she is laying she is still pecking at the ground and eating, and as vocal as all the others. When I picked her up I found she can flap her wings like normal and when my dog came near she was able to run as normal. I have not gotten any eggs yet and was hoping that this behavior may be caused by some confusion in my girl cause she may be about to lay, and don't know what is going on.

Anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?

Is there anything physically wrong with her that you can tell? Are you sure she has enough water? Dehydrated animals and people do some odd things. Does she have shade throughout the day? Is her balance off? When the dog makes her run, how long can she run...Does she run straight or veer off to a side?

If its a disease I cannot help you. My animals have always been healthy (Knock on wood, What will we do when there is no WOOD left

) Hence I have no advice in that area. Don't worry if you see a bunch of views and no answers/responses. This might be rare or people haven't dealed with it yet. I am sure by tomorrow there will be a few people that have an idea of what you have going on thou.

Thanks everybody, I think it was the heat. By the end of the day they were all kind of acting the same. Wings out and laying around. They go plenty of water, and by the evening they were all acting normal, well... normal for a chicken that is.
