Can anyone explain why my chicken is walking sideways. My partner looked on line and reckons it could be the fact that the chicken has had a stroke. They are well fed and watered and there is no fighting. I have a couple of videos but they are to large for this site.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thank you.

Hi @Mark Maynard :frow Welcome To BYC

Your videos may be helpful - you will need to upload to youtube or similar platform then provide us a link. (the BYC upload does not work for video)

Can you give more information too please -

How old is your chicken?
What type of food/treats do you feed?

Just some guesses at this point - take a look in the ears for infection, debris/mites.
Walking sideways can be neurological - Marek's disease also comes to mind. You can try treating symptoms by giving Vitamin E and B1 (Thiamine). Poultry Cell vitamins would be good to use or you can give 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tab B-Complex.

Look forward to more info and the video(s).

Thank you very much for your reply. since I posted this we have been able to secure an appointment with a vet as she seems to be worse I will show them the video. your suggestion about the ears has helped thanks. they are slightly swollen in comparison to the rest. I am rather hoping it is just something simple. Thanks again and have a great day.

Glad you are able to seek vet care!
I hope they are able to give you answers :)

Just got back from the vets. She has a compacted crop. we now have to squirt 5ml of vegetable oil down her throat 3 times a day. If it is no better by Monday she may need an operation but these are not very successful and she might have to be put down. At least this way she has a chance. Thanks for all your suggestions and I will update on monday.

Thanks for the update.
I thought her crop looked large, but thought maybe she had just eaten.
Did they show you how to hit the esophagus?
