I have golden sexlinks, 8 of them. This bird has strange red marks, she is isolating herself from the flock in a big puff ball, i suspect she has developed bumble foot in the last 3 days which is warm to the touch, and she has red spots on her chest with irritated red skin all the way to her vent. The picture doesn't give justice to her comb but ever since the California smoke blew in it has been almost purple, it got a bit better when i brought her inside for a hour. Any suggestions on what is wrong and what to try?

She is a sweetheart and i want to help her (mcnugget, a favorite of my niece and nephew...they were seeing a therapist after sleeper passed away suddenly about a year ago) but vets are not an option because none in the 500 mile area will see chickens and i cant afford a thousand dollar vet bill.

If there is anything I can do to help her, i will, but i am still kind of new to this and dont know where to start.

She is getting a foot soak and extraction for the bumble foot. I will treat that with peroxide and neosporn under a foot wrap changed daily. She will also get Asprin (about an eighth of a tablet) crushed up a mixed in an egg/yougert treat divided into 10 doses for pain relief with another eighth crushed and disolved into her water.

Any suggestions welcome

Is she roosting on a board at night, or on the floor? The red on her chest might be irritation or a breast blister from lying on damp bedding or a rough roost. Is she walking normally, or being bullied by others? How old are these chickens and are they laying eggs? Soaking her feet daily in warm soapy or Epsom salts water can help to get the bumblefoot scab open, so that you can squeeze out the solid pus that may be inside. I usually do the surgery if the chicken is limping or the bumblefoot is very red or swollen. Don’t use peroxide, but you can use chlorhexidene or betadine to clean the bumblefoot.

She roostes on a beam every night.5 chickens are laying at about 1.5 years, 3 will be laying in the next week or so. She is not the bottom of the pecking order but not the top, i usually dont hear many chicken fights and i spend a fair amount of time in the garden.

I soaked her for half an hour and extracted first the hard exterior plug, the callus like secondary dead cell plug, and the whitish pus plug below minimal blood but i did express it until it ran clean blood. It was dressed with antibiotic and a balm for bumble foot....a cotton pad and coban
