I am waiting on 10 chicks next week. out of my old flock I'm down to only two three and a half year old hens. Hubby is building a bigger coop so the Hens sleeping arrangements have changed. They are both Silkie hens that grew up together. Penny my smallest hen has been a bit spooked so I peeked into their window tonight after putting them to bed. Penny tried to crawl under peeps bottom!! she didn't fit so peep spread out her wing and penny DID FIT UNDER IT. they both went to sleep that way! Peep is a lot larger bird than penny. Peep is a silkie cross and penny is all silkie. so at night penny a fully grown hen sleeps under her friend peeps wing to feel safe. I thought this strange but very very sweet! Has anyone ever heard of such a behavior??♡♡♡♡ chicken love and friendship, priceless!!!!♡♡

Maybe they just love each other. OR they are BFF's
I don't really know

I've never seen that from a full grown and mature hen. it really was pretty cute. I just had to share it with people who appreciate chickens as much as I do. it was really precious when the larger hen stretched out her wing and penny went under it and they both fell asleep that way! just goes to show you that they really do look out and care for each other. :)

My hens often try to crawl under the roo (my avatar) when they are on the perch. And I have noticed that flock mates do form bonds/friendships. I had 2 who were BFF until a hawk took one of them. My 2 Dom gals are always together.

We have a faverolle (approx 3 years old) that will keep our broody Pekin (maybe 1.5 years old) company and in the cooler weather the Pekin will sit all day and night under her wing.
It's goegeous!
