Strange chick

I hatched 5 eggs a week ago and 4 chicks died over a period of 5 days. I have no idea why. Would seem ok then 20 mins later lying on their sides and then recover for a while.

Anyway the chick that's left is eating and drinking ok. However, when it drinks it swallows the water then twitches, reverses and looks like its having a mini fit. It then continues to drink and does its strange behaviour.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry for your losses and for your chick that doesn't seem quite right (and of course for you).

May I please ask a question that may sound/seem silly to you? How have you been feeling lately, and those in your household?

Hubbys got a cold but thats typical man flu!!

Why what were you thinking? I would be concerned more about my Galah Cockatoo!

Well since your chick is twitching its head and sporadically "convulsing" it would seem (the strange behavior) it made me worry about Newcastle Disease, which is transmissible to humans. I can't for the life of me think what might be wrong, but if your chicks passed away that quickly and now this one is exhibiting funky behavior - just made me wonder. I am new to chickens (brand new) but I've read and poured over countless sources regarding the various diseases they can get, and symptoms.

How long ago did your most recent chick pass away? Is there any way you could 'send it' for a necropsy to determine the cause of death?

I hope someone a bit more experienced will chime in here. I'm so sorry about your lost ones and this last little one that isn't quite right. I hope he/she will snap out of it for you!
