Strange droppings afoot!

The chicks are approaching 2 weeks. We've had 2 casualties out of 26 - which appeared to unrelated to each other. All the other chicks look great. Except ...

There's this weird dropping I find on occasion. Looks just like a drop of melted caramel. I couldn't find an explanation in my reference library. Any ideas what could cause that?
