Strange duck egg

I found a strange duck egg in their coop this morning. Can anybody help me identify what happened and if this is something that might happen with young hens that have only been laying one or two weeks?

It appears to be the membrane ... either extra membrane, or that the egg may have gotten the shell before the membrane was in place. It is attached to the pointy end of the egg rather like an umbilical cord. The pointy end of the egg is cracked, but no contents have leaked out. I’m unsure if it cracked before or after it was laid.

Thank you for any input.

Can someone tell me what the heck this is??
This was laid by one of my ducks. I found it just like this in their coop this morning. The membrane (or whatever) came off easily and the eggshell is hard and looks completely normal. Never saw anything like this before! We have no male ducks, only females. The ducks have been laying for months---not new layers.
