Just wondering if anyone might have seen this happen before and give us some advise.
One of our bantams has been laying eggs just fine but today had a problem with one. She laid a partially formed egg, it was normal size for her but was the shell was all soft and transparent and was split at one end with a sting coming off one end.
I think some yolk might have come out as one of the other eggs in the nesting box was covered in yolk.
The hen doesn't look too good today, she is standing around look unwell, with her wings hanging low.
Hopefully some one can help us out.
Thank you.
Jenny

*I'd re-post or ask the mods to re-post for you to EMERGENCIES-- Your bird sounds like she might be in trouble.

sounds like she needs some oyster shell.

Every once in awhile you'll get soft eggs. Just means you need more oyster shell.

She has been laying eggs normally for the last 2 weeks. I bought her from a friend about two weeks ago.
Is that normal for an egg to just suddenly do that if lack of oyster shells is the culprit?
Thanks. Jenny

porterfive, yes it's completely normal.

My hens popped out one not too long ago that was shell less, the day before the eggs were fine, and the day after the eggs were fine.
It happens every now and then. No worries.
