I am raising chickens for the first time. They are now around 10 weeks old and from Myers Hatchery. All of their feathers look smooth (with the exception of the silkie) except for my lavender Orpington, Jasmine. Her feathers look messy / split on her back. Her chest and most of her sides are smoother. I have a buff Orpington as well and all of her feathers look normal.

I tried searching for others with similar feathers, but didn't really find any. The closest I saw was the frizzle but most of Jasmine's feathers lay flat and don't really stick out.

Thanks so much for your help.

She looks exactly like my lavender Orpington. Those frayed feathers are genetic.

Thank you so much! That article answered my question. I have been wondering about her feathers since they grew in. My family loves the way she looks because she is unique. It is good to know that there is nothing wrong with her!

I have a Lav Orpington who did something similar though not quite as dramatic. You have a gorgeous pullet :)
