I have a 16 day old filly.I have had several foals over the past 20 years.I saw this filly eating her mothers' poop today.I have never seen that before.I know baby rabbits' first food is their moms pellets but I've never saw a foal do this.I wonder if shes lacking something or just stupid or what.I was thinking oh no thats not good, there has to be some parasites in that. This filly seems to always be hungry, shes already eating hay and feed.Shes not just checking it out, shes eating. My mare always makes plenty of milk and will nurse for as long as a foal wants to nurse.Anyone ever seen this?I guess it could have happened here before but I watch my young very close and wonder how I could have missed it before.Any and all comments welcome. Thanks:)

It's normal. That is how they establish normal gut flora (bacteria) that is the right kind to help with digestion of what is local feed in their area.
