About a week ago, one of our hens started showing blackish lines on her comb. We've been keeping an eye on it but now there are little, almost dry looking, spots. Has anyone ever seen this? Is it normal?
It looks like she is getting scratched by a sharp piece of wire somewhere. Is she the ony one with these marks? Check around the feeder, or maybe she is trying to eat grass thru a mesh fencing or something like that.
What a pretty hen! Looks to me like, 1) another bird is pecking her, 2) she has sunburn, 3) she got into some thorn bushes or other plants that could've scratched her, 4) she has been scratched by wire or fence, or 5) there is a possibility for mites on her comb.
Ok, I have been monitoring the other chickens and they all seem to be ok. I'll still take a look around for anything that might be scratching her. I got so worried bc she's one of my favorites!!! Hopefully it is that simple!
Put some neosporin on it. It will serve two purposes; heal the injury/wound, and if it is mites, the neosporin will smother them. Inspect her for mites especially around her vent area just in case.
