So we have about 20 chickens we rescued from the poultry butcher. We have no idea how old some of them are don't know if they are just beginning the laying process or at the end or if there is a nutritional problem any ideas?

What breed are they? Are they the same breed? How does one save chickens from the butcher? Are they a backyard flock that someone could no longer keep? Did the person you got them from not know how old they are?

At my house, we call those fart or wind eggs (or, if you're my daughter, fairy eggs since she'd never be heard saying a word like fart). They're pretty common in new and older layers and occasionally pop up in between. They're pretty normal as long as they aren't accompanied by any issues like lethargy, puffed up feathers, ECT.

They're my daughters favorite, ours typically don't have yolks, or very small ones. She's not a yolk eater :)

Thank you so much for your responses funky chicken and odelia! We are new to the exciting world of chickens and so far we LOVE it!!! I am an expat living in Morocco where chicken is sold live or is butchered on the spot :-(. So we bought some chickens from one of the many many poultry guys with the thought of cleaning them out with good nutritional food to be culled later...Then they started laying! So we bought some more !!!We have Bantam Rooster and 2 Bantam Hens... quail and pigeon!!! We are fortunate to be able to go to the local market and buy ducks and turkeys as well as fertilized eggs(which are being sold to eat) we can buy a fertilized egg for about 30 cents .Chicken are sold by the kilo so between 2 and 4 dollars each. Some of the eating chickens are also sold as pullets.... of course you can also buy chicks as well but we have had no success with that. We currently have a hen who went broody and is sitting on fertilized eggs bought from the Suq(Market) they have started hatching!!!!

If you have standard and bantam chickens then the small eggs are most likely from your bantam hens. They lay a decent size egg compared to their body, but it is always going to be much smaller than a larger breeds egg. Do they have a yolk in them? Other than being smaller than the other egg is there anything strange about the smaller eggs?
