Susan Skylark
Songster
Just hatched 10 eggs today, one pipped at the narrow end and needed help. He just sort of laid there like he was going to die, didn’t even try to get up or walk or turn over or eat his own toes. I had moved everybody else to the brooder but this pathetic little guy, you’d assume leaving him in the incubator until he was on his feet would be best, but for some reason I thought a little sibling rivalry would be good for him. I also dosed him with a little sugar water before tossing him in the brooder (low blood sugar after traumatic birth?). Whatever it was, I can now hardly tell which of the five Italians is him. I think he needed something else to think about besides feeling sorry for himself, like not letting someone else eat his toes!
